I forgot to tell you that Jennie Penland was the daughter of William Penland Sr. and Anna (Annis) Donnal and I have the Penlands back to 1500's if you would like that also.
James Fox born 1740 married unknown first wife and the following children I believe are hers. Her last name may be Sisk as that family moved from Virginia to North Carolina and part of them went on as James Fox did to Hopkins County, Kentucky. Hugh Fox; James Fox; Titus Fox born 1760 Shenandoah County, Virginia and died June 22, 1825 in Hopkins County, Kentucky; John Wesley Fox Sr. born February 19, 1764 Shenandoah County, Virginia died August 1, 1840 in Knox County, Tennessee; Daniel Fox born January 1, 1766 in Shenandoah County, Virginia died April 22, 1845 in Marshall County, Kentucky; Allen Fox born 1768 in Shenandoah County, Virginia died July 13, 1843 in Weaverville, Buncome County, North Carolina.
Then James Fox remarried to Elizabeth (I believe Elizabeth Bean) on May 12, 1773 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. She was born about 1751. Then they had at least two sons
Noah Fox born 1776 in Virginia/North Carolina died before 1860 in Hopkins County, Kentucky and Enoch Fox born July 3, 1774 in Shenandoah County, Virginia and died May 1853 in Lafayette, Missouri. Now I know they were in North Carolina and were at Kings Mountain in 1780 and in 1782 they are listed on the tax list at Wilkes County North Carolina and he purchases his land on October 23, 1783 on the middle prong of Swan Creek 138 acres on his own line and that of William Lewis's line so when he to have land prior to that to match his own line and William Lewis's but this is the earliest deed I have found so far. I find them on the tax lists till 1796 and on the 1790 Census of Wilkes County, North Carolina however everyone trys to say that the Fox's in Burke are not related to the ones in Wilkes and I say wrong. I have only a few children of Hugh's and none of his son James a lot on the others and since my grandfather said that the ones in Burke were part of his father's family and some of the names are so close I believe that they are related.
Also on page 17 of Alexander County, North Carlina Heritage book published in 1986 it states"Alexander County was formed in 1847 and parts of what was Wilkes and Burke Counties became Alexander County."Fox Family" James Fox's survey of 325 acres on September 6, 1779 was on both sides of Lower Little River and adjoined Alexander Grahn's line. The chain carriers were William Irons and Alexander Graham. James Fox had three state land grants on Lower Little River totaling 675 acres of land. Hugh and William Fox settled on the Middle Little River. They seemed to arrive after the Revolutionary War and entries for land were made in the 1790's. The relationship to James Fox is not know, but they seem to be the same generation. Hugh Fox had 410 acres and William Fox had 150 acres of land in 1796, according to a Burke County tax list."
Now according to our family history and the list of men at Kings Mountain there was a James Fox listed right with and right together as Captain Lewis seemed to list family together and since everything they told me has proven true then I have to believe that this might will be James Fox's son James and Hugh Fox and the William Fox could be one of their sons or another son of old James Fox. So to me this proves they were related in some way to the ones in Wilkes just like I was told.
      Linda
