Note:
Jim,
Thanks for your reply. Your info on your family website gave me some more insight on the Thompson family. I will continue to research this family and if I find new info, I will forward it to you. Feel free to use me as a source.
The James T. Perciful who married Alle Bickers was half brother to my gggrandfather John Percifull who married Mary W. Thompson. His parents were Thomas and Sarah Glidewell Perciful.
This is the biography info I found on Allen Thompson from the book BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF TENNESSEE BAPTIST MINISTERS written by Rev. Joseph Borum and published by Rogers and Co. of Memphis,Tn in 1880.
ALLEN THOMPSON
>>> This memorable brother was born in Pendleton District, S.C. December 11, 1796. His parents moved from South Carolina to Kentucky when he was a small boy and finally settled in Warren County in that state. He was raised by religious parents, belonging to the Dunker's, or as it is sometimes called Dunkard's church.
He was married to Sarah Barnett, January 25, 1816, with whom he lived fifty-seven years and five months. He professed on Monday, October 19,1819, and was baptized by John Dick, a Dunker minister, on Saturday after, into the fellowship of the Dunker church. He remained in Kentucky until the year 1824, in which time he was liscensed to preach, but did not exercise much until he moved to West Tennessee, October 1824. After moving to West Tennessee, he united with a small Dunkard church, under the care of John Dick, who moving away left the church without a shepard
Elder Thompson was ordained while living with the Dunkards by Eison Gibson, who lived in Middle Tennessee. In 1829, by noticing the effects of preaching "the restituition of all things" upon the people, caused him clearly to investigate the Scriptures; upon doing this he gave of the doctrine, and yet it was two or three years before he publicly renounced it. He was baptized into the fellowship of the Clover Creek Baptist Church on the second Saturday in May 1840, by Elder Obadiah Dobson, and was licensed to preach in1841; was ordained by Clover Creek Baptist Church Elders G.W. Day and Jesse J. Smith constituting the prebytery, the 28th of Feburary,1842. He as afterwards chosen the pastor of Clover Creek church, which he served as such some four years. He has also served the Cane Creek church as their pastor for two years.
Elder Thompson is now in his eight-first year, still hale and hearty; travels around to see his children and friends, but does not exercise in public now. He still resides in Madison County, where he has lived for years. Medon is his post office.
Elder Thompson being of domestic habits, has not traveled and preached much beyond his neighborhood and the ajacent counties. He is an unpretending and devotedly pious brother, and has raised his children to love and serve the lord.<<<<<<

James,
Saw your family history postings at Rootsweb. I have been doing research on the Allen Thompson family of Madison County,Tn for the past couple of years. His daughter, Mary W. Here is the information I have on this family.
Allen Thompson was born Dec 11, 1796 in Pendleton Dist., SC. His family moved to Warren County, KY when he was young. I have their children as:

According to the book BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF TENNESSEE BAPTISTS MINISTERS written by Joseph Borum in 1880, Allen Thompson was liscened to preach in the Dunker Church in 1824 nad moved to West Tennessee. In 1829 he renounced the Dunker doctrine and left the church. He was baptized in the Baptist faith and was licensed to preach in the Baptist Church in 1841. "...When we arrived at our grand father Thompson We found three other orphan children at grand fathers house. They were the Sons and daughter of Uncle Robert Bickers who was killed by a Nigro in the State of Ark. This increased my grand father Thompson famley to 6 orphan children which was a great burden on my grand father + grand mother for they was both old and feeble and he had a blind daughter Aunt Alley Thompson who was then 50 years old and had been blind all her life but Aunt Alley did not live but a few months after we got there. Aunt Alley was a good woman and as write this I can See in my mind to night that good blind Aunt of mine going a round that old place and doing things that looks to me now unreasonable for a blind person to do but my grand father managed to take cear of us 6 orphan children very well considering the war times both Northern + Southern Armeys was at that time makeing raids in West Tenn. and it was hard on any one to make any thing
and keep it. I was 14 years old then and I had not had any chance to attend School Since the first I attended and was young then that I did not learn any thing that worth any thing. My grand father Sent me to School Some when we had no work to do in the field and my first School then was a hard Struggle for me. A big boy like me 14 years old and could not read a word in the Book. Misses Lizzie Reeves and old maid was my teacher..."
