Birth: 1870 Clifton, Wayne County, Tennessee, USA
Death: 1961 (aged 90-91) Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee, USA
Burial: Hollywood Cemetery, Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee, USA

      Bio:
Caroline Compton Thompson, well known in First Baptist Church and Sunday School circles and prominently identified with the United Daughters of the Confederacy over a long period of years, died Saturday night at 8:45 at her home after an extended illness. Caroline was the widow of the late Charles Thompson, long-time Jackson merchant, who died in 1940. She was born in Clifton, Tenn., daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Compton, was educated at Kenton, Tenn., and taught school in Kentucky before coming to Jackson in 1915. Caroline merged the three women's societies of the First Baptist Church into a single unit. She taught a Sunday School Class for many years and was known for her knowledge of the Bible and her ability to teach. Often referred to as one who lived in her own life the admonitions she gave to her Sunday School class, she had commanding influence among all ages in her church. Her fine traits marked her as a lovable Christian character. She was one of a group of UDC members designated by Mrs. Nathan Bachman of Chattanooga, then state president, to complete the roll of Tennessee soldiers who participated in the Battle of Shiloh, a work for which she received high commendation. She organized the Junior Red Cross Chapter in Jackson and was instrumental in directing relief work in the flood that struck in West Tennessee in the thirties. Services were held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. Wayne Dehoney. pastor of the First Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Wm. S. Bates, assistant pastor, conducted the services which were held at the home. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery with Griffin Funeral Home In charge.
