He was also the father in law of Jacob Holeman, Rebecca's third husband. He and Jacob Holeman and another man, Caswell Mason, who was a brother in law to Jacob Holeman were very active in establishing the General Baptist Church in western Kentucky and probably in Illinois and Missouri. On a tip from a lady on the internet named Mamie Tate, who has done extensive research on the Holeman family, I discovered that in the Hopkins Co. Ky. county clerks office in KY Court order book 1845-46, page 405 there is a notation that Ludwell Brackett has been ordained a Minister of the Gospel at General Baptist Church. This is dated 9 March **** 1846. On Aug. 2, 2003 I received a photocopy of that page of the record book showing where he had presented credentials as proof of his ordination as a minister of the gospel for the General Baptist Church. He took the oath of Fidelity to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He listed Travis Sisk and Abner Henson as security as required by law. He was granted the right to perform matrimonial ceremonies for persons regularly applying to him for that purpose in this state. NOTE: This document is very difficult to read.
