Will Book Abstracts, book A, pp 266-267: CYNTHIA DERRYBERRY, April 1874-Oct. 7, 1878. Nephew H. H. Vinson entire est except to niece Martha Vinson "a room of the house" as long as she is single. Wits A. W. Fuller, T. J. Fuller. Secondary sources state Cyntha's maiden name was Vinson, which is supported by the probate abstract above. Furthermore, Cyntha and her parents were from North Carolina, and the Vinson family of Madison Co. seems to have originted there as well. Her nephew is probably the Henry H. Vinson (1838-1913) buried in Maple Springs Cemetery. 1850 US census, Dist. 3, Madison Co., TN John Gilliam, age 50, farmer, b. VA Cynthia Gilliam, age 50, b. NC Madison Co. Deed Book 17: 287. GEORGE ROGERS and wife, LUCY ROGERS, daughter of JOHN GILLIAM, Sr., sold her undivided interest in Gilliam's estate to his widow, CYNTHA GILLIAM for $200. John Gilliam being John Gilliam, Jr. Both Rogerses signed with "x" marks. April 28, 1853. Reg May 6, 1854. No wits. Deed Book 13: 419-421. March 19, 1853, JAMES HEAD and wife, ANN, Scott Co., Va. sold to CYNTHA GILLIAM, Madison Co., Tenn. their interest in 380 acres, for $28.57, from the estate of JOHN GILLIAM, who had died without bodily hrs; the Heads were hrs at law of said John through her mother, ELIZABETH LEWIS, formerly Gilliam, a sister of John Gilliam, dec. Ann signed with her "x" mark. March 19, 1853. Reg April 23, 1853. Wits Martin Lewis, Arthur Williams. 421-422. WILLIAM FALIN and wife, MARY, formerly Gilliam, Scott Co., Va. sold to CYNTHA GILLIAM, Madison Co., Tenn. their interest in 380 acres in Madison Co., land of the late JOHN GILLIAM, for $200.
