      Catherine Brandon Young

Birth: 1731 Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jan 1815 (aged 83-84) Union, Union County, South Carolina, USA
Burial: Old Union CemeteryUnion County, South Carolina, USA
      Memorial #: 13030014

      Bio:
Catherine Brandon was born about 1730-1731 to George Brandon, and his unknown wife, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She married Thomas B Young, as his second wife, probably in Pennsylvania just before they left Pennsylvania for South Carolina. He son George, who was her second child, after Elizabeth, was born 5 Dec 1755 in South Carolina. She had known children Elizabeth, George, Mary Ann, Rachel, Letitia, John, Thomas (Major Thomas Young), Jane, Elenor, Ruth, and Christopher.
The birth order of the bequests to her children in her will appear to be based on the children's birth order.
Catherine's husband Thomas B Young died in Union, South Carolina, in 1791. Catherine wrote her will on 31 August 1813. She died in Union, South Carolina, in January 1815; her will was proved 6 Jan 1815.
Some trees show her death date as 21 November 1814, but the Catherine Young who died on that date died in Northumberland County Pennsylvania.

      George Brandon

      Birth: 1710 Ireland
Death: 1782 (aged 71-72) Union County, South Carolina, USA
Burial: Old Union CemeteryUnion County, South Carolina, USA
      Memorial #: 258113467

      Bio:
The origins of George Brandon, the father of Col. Thomas Brandon, are uncertain. Prior to moving with his family to South Carolina, records place him in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, living in proximity to the Young and other families who emigrated together to South Carolina in the 1750's and 60's. Some trees show he was born in Ireland, though the source of this tradition is unknown; his strict Presbyterianism suggests he was likely Scotch/Irish, thus probably from the Ulster Plantation in Ireland.
There are records for at least two George Brandons in the area around the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania in the early 1700's; their relationships with each other are not known. One is known to have emigrated to Rowan County North Carolina, where he died in 1773, and is buried. He may have been a cousin to George Brandon of Union County, SC.
George Brandon, the father of Col. Thomas Brandon, was in Union County, South Carolina, living on Tinkers Creek, by 1764 (according to the papers of Joseph Habersham, later U.S. Postmaster General), and later, apparently, on Browns Creek. He was, as mentioned, a strict Presbyterian (as was the George Brandon of North Carolina). He signed the 1755 petition to Gov. Arthur Dobbs from the inhabitants "on ye frunteers of Anson County" asking for a fort to be built between the Enoree River and the headwaters of Thickety Creek, but he doesn't appear on the 1759 Anson County militia role (Anson County at the time straddled the border, including portions of both North and South Carolina). During the Revolutionary War, George's son Colonel Thomas Brandon lived on nearby Brown's Creek, moving afterwards to Fairforest, west of the Union Courthouse.
George Brandon's wife is unknown; some trees show her as Mary Armstrong, but Mary Armstrong was the wife of the George Brandon who settled in North Carolina.
It's not certain when George Brandon died; he was last recorded living on Brown's Creek, after the Revolutionary War. He is assumed to have been buried in the cemetery of the old Union Church (established 1755), along with his children John, Catherine, Mary Ann, Thomas and Richard, but that's not recorded. He may be in a family cemetery on his property at Browns Creek.
