Terry: You may have seen my postings in attempts to located ancestors my early ancestor WILLIAM BARCLAY(1754-1836) and wife Sarah COOPER(1771-1841). Have been unsuccessful thus far. However, in search I extracted info from a Barclay family history at the Library of Congress(I think) on the well documented family of William BARCLAY(1669-1732) born in Scotland or NIreland, uncertain when arrived in PA(land records lists a William Barclay in 1725), lived/died Lancaster Co PA. He had at least three sons: John, Hugh and William (unfortunately not my William) This John Barclay(1699-1765)unknown where born married Martha McConnell. Land records show he farmed on West Branch of Octorara Creek, Colerain Twp, Lancaster Co PA in 1736. He had no children but will mentions his wife's relatives John, Daniel and Alexander McConnell, a cousin Mary Allison and several nephews who were sons of brothers Hugh and William.
Incidently, his brother Hugh( -1764)served in the French and Indian War and Hugh's son Hugh Jr(1729-1806)married to Mary Culbertson and Martha Smith moved to Rockbridge Co VA after Revoltionary War.
So many Barclays in colonial PA but perhaps this is the John you mention. Others in the Barclay discussions much more familiar with this family than I. HOWEVER....I continue seeking leads to my lost William!! Regards. Bill [email protected]
