Mildred (widow Brown, widow Howell) Lewis Willis
Birth: 1691 Gloucester, Gloucester County, Virginia, USA
Death: 17 Nov 1732 (aged 4041)
Burial: Saint Georges Episcopal Burial Ground, Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg City, Virginia, USA
Memorial #: 181986968
Bio:
Mildred Lewis was the daughter of Councilor John Lewis (30 Nov 1669 - 14 Nov 1725) and his wife Elizabeth Warner (24 Nov 1672- 06 Feb 1720) of Austin's Desire, Warner Hall, Gloucester, VA. She married Dr. John Brown of Williamsburg and was widowed. She then married a Howell, again widowed, and finally married, as his second wife, Col. Henry Willis, the "founder" and man who saved Fredericksburg, VA. She had by him 4 known children: John Willis (b. 16 July 1728), Elizabeth (b. 1729), Ann Willis (b. 4 Sept 1731 or 1734 - 1804) and Mary Isabella Willis. Ann's birth is in dispute and some say that she and Mary Isabella were the daughters of the third wife, Mildred Warner Washington (aunt of President George Washington.) Col. Byrd Willis, grandson of Henry Willis, wrote two books and in one book he claims Ann to have been the daughter of Mildred Lewis (Brown) Howell and in the other book he claims that she was the daughter of Mildred Washington (widow Gregory.) I have had DNA results through ancestry.com and find that I am related to both the Lewis and the Washington families and therefore do not yet have confirmation of either of those claims. Mildred Lewis was the daughter of Councilor John Lewis (30 Nov 1669- 14 Nov 1725) and his wife Elizabeth Warner (24 Nov 1672 - 6 Feb 1720). Elizabeth Warner was the daughter of Augustine Warner II (1650-19 June 1681) and his wife Mildred Reade (1643-1686). The name Augustine was passed down to the father of President George Washington who was called "Gus".
