John Young
Birth: 1775 Union County, South Carolina, USA
Death: 1830 (aged 5455) Perry County, Tennessee, USA
Burial: Dickson-Blackburn Cemetery, Linden, Perry County, Tennessee, USA
Memorial #: 184787623
Bio:
John Young, born in South Carolina about 1775,(1) was the son of William Young, Revolutionary War soldier. William Young was born in 1744 in York County, Pennsylvania (at the time it was part of Lancaster County - York county was formed 4 years after William was born); he was the son of Thomas Young, Esquire, and his first, unknown, wife. William emigrated to South Carolina with his father and his stepmother (Thomas' 2nd wife) Catherine (Brandon) Young, about 1755.
William's wife (John's mother) was Margaret Haile, the daughter of a French Huguenot who settled much earlier in South Carolina; they married in South Carolina about 1770.(2) John is their first known son, born between 1775 and 1790. Their other known children were Catherine, born about 1788 (who married Nathan Ragan in Dickson County in 1810), and Samuel (Major Samuel Young) born about 1792; there may also have been a Jesse, birthdate unknown, and Christopher, also unknown, and possibly others.(3)
John Young's wife was Hannah Miller. They married before 1808, probably in Dickson County, where their eldest son, John Miller Young, was born in 1808.
In 1818, John and his family, and his father William, moved to Perry County, TN, where William Young, and his son John, are buried. John and his wife would have at least 4 more children: William Miller Young born about 1809, Thomas W. Young, born 1811, Samuel Young, born 1816, and George Mitchell Young, born 1824.(4)
The 1820 census of Perry County shows John Young with 2 males over 45 (he and his father William), 3 young males (son William had died by then), 3 young females, and 1 female 26 to 44 (his wife, Hannah).
John Young's wife is presumed to have died shortly after the birth of their son George Mitchell Young; no more children are known after that date. John Young died in 1830 in Perry County; his gravesite is near that of his father.
Notes:
1 from John's 1820 census record, Perry County TN, and his father William's 1790 census record of Union County, SC. In 1790, William had son born betwwen 1775 and 1890, and a daughter (Catherine) born before 1790 (Catherine emigrated with the family to Dickson County, TN in late 1790's or early 1800's, where Catherine later married Nathan Ragan).
