The first two children are probably by a first wife, Elizabeth(?). The rest are the children of Gabriel and Priscilla Jones Washburn. Please add them to the memorial for Gabriel Washburn. Thanks Gabriel was documented as a Revolutionary Patriot as a civil servant. He was not a soldier. The grave site was surrounded by an iron pipe fence and unkept with weeds almost covering some of the stones. That fence has since been removed and the area cleared. Will probated in Rutherford Co, NC ?? North Carolina, USA Gabriel Washburn's name is listed in "The Abstract Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Vol 4, Serial 11393, Vol. 3. There is no evidence that Gabriel was a soldier; however with evidence I provided, the DAR has accepted him as a civil servant during the Revolutionary War. He was married to Priscilla Jones. Gabriel had 14 children. References in the family Bible indicate that two of the children were by a first wife. The Washburn cemetery is located on private property and when I visited was unkept behind an iron pipe fence which according to more recent photos has been removed and the weeds cleared. The Gabriel Washburn Cemetery is located SW of Lattimore on the land of Elijah McSwain, about 100 yards from the Beaver Dam Creek and about 6 miles West of Shelby, in what is now Cleveland County, North Carolina. It is a family graveyard surrounded by a pipe fence lie the remains of Gabriel Washburn and his wife Priscilla. Mr S. C. Jones in "Hamrick Generations, p. 15, that Gabriel Washburn entered land in Burke County, but later moved to Rutherford County in 1820. Some sources show Gabriel's place of birth as Germany. The following is a transcript of Grbriel Washburn's will from "Heritage of Cleveland County, North Carolina. The will was dated 12 Sep 1822 and recorded in Jan 1826. "In the name of God, Amen. I Gabriel Washburn of Rutherford County, North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory (Blessed be God) do this twelth day of September in this year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say.
