from the book 'The Collie family of Pittsylvania Co, VA' by Betty Cox Collie

His will dated 12/11/1830 probated in 8/1834 in Smith Co, TN name his 2nd wife Polly and 4 living children and 3 deceased children

They are listed in the book -- and in the excerpt below
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      The Collie Family p. 658

Francis Cornwell (d. 1834), Brother of Ann (Cornwell) Collie

Francis Cornwell, like his sister, Ann (Cornwell) Collie, was named as a child in the
will of Charles Cornwell (d. 1781). Francis was born about the 1740s, probably in Prince
William County, VA, and died prior to August 1834 in Smith County, TN, when his will,
dated December 11, 1830, was presented there for probate. His approximate birth year is
estimated from his reported age (in his 80s) recorded in the 1830 federal census of Smith
County, TN. In his will he named his second wife, "Polly,'"' plus four living children and
three deceased children. They are listed below, supplemented by brief records on their children
based on research by the authors of this book and references cited:

      1. Thompson Cornwell (1788-1850s)10 married Jane Yeaman (1794-1850s),
daughter of John Yeaman and Mary (Williams) Yeaman, on (bond dated) March 23,
1812, in Pittsylvania County, VA, and had ten children: (1) Elijah W. Cornwell, husband
of Purlina (...); (2) Enoch Cornwell; (3) Barnett Cornwell, husband of (1st) Mahala
Sutton, (2TU|) Martha Sutton; (4) Josiah Cornwell; (5) Luranie Cornwell, wife of Silas
Russell; (6) Fushie Cornwell, husband of Sally M. Garret; (7) Matilda Cornwell; (8) Jane
Cornwell, wife of Silas Austin; (9) Susan Cornwell; and (10) Thompson Cornwell, Jr.

      2. SUas C. Cornwell (1792-1865) married Jane Shields on (bond dated) February
15,1813, in Pittsylvania County, VA, and had at least two children: (1) Pleasant F.
Cornwell, husband of Elizabeth (...); and (2) Luvenia Cornwell (1823-1825).

      3. Anna Cornwell married Augustine S. Thorn and had at least one child: Kitty
      C. Thorn, (lsl) wife of a Mr. Bennett and (2nd) wife of Rawleigh C. Stott.

      4. Fouche "Fooshe" C. Cornwell (deed pre-1830) married "Betse" Cheatham
on (bond dated) October 5,1807, in Pittsylvania County, VA, and had eight children:"
      (1) Drury Cornwell, husband of Jane (...); (2) Louisa Cornwell; (3) Alfred Cornwell,
husband of America (...); (4) Larkin Cornwell, husband of Ann E. (...); (5) Henry
Cornwell; (6) Harriett Cornwell; (7) a daughter who married Benjamin Payne; and (8)
a daughter who married Joseph Law.

      5. John Cornwell (dee'd pre-1830) married Mary Garland and had at least five
children: (1) William Garland Cornwell (1792-1877), husband of (1st) Elizabeth
Yeaman,12 (2nd) Letitia Dodd, (3rd) Judy Reese; (2) Artemisa Griffith Cornwell; (3) Ann
Cordelia Cornwell; (4) John Burrell Cornwell; and (5) Louisa Valentina Cornwell.

      6. Dolly Cornwell (dee'd pre-1830) married a Mr. Flippen and supposedly had
      children.

      Footnotes:
9 "Polly" was the nickname for Mary Dean, who was the mother of Willis Cornwell. According to
Bible records from descendants, she was born October 1, 1793, and died August 30, 1865. The
name of Francis Cornwell's previous wife also was Mary, as indicated in an 1805 Pittsylvania County,
VA, deed. Her maiden surname is unknown. She may be the mother of the other nine children of
Francis Cornwell, though we cannot prove this.
10 More information on Thompson Cornwell and his family is found in: The Yeaman Family of
Pittsylvania County, Virginia: Their Origin, Relatives, & Descendants, by Robert E. King, privately
printed, Anchorage, AK, 1995, pp. 52-63.
11 The 1830 federal census of Smith Co., TN, listed her as "Elizabeth," with some researchers identifying
her as a daughter of Abia Cheatham, who settled in Smith Co., TN. Fouche's eight children
were listed in Smith County, TN, Court Minutes Vol. 13, p. 10, dated August 30,1830.
12 Their descendants are traced in King (1995:64-69). She was a sister to Jane Yeaman (above).

      659 Appendix: Cornwell Family Records

      7. Willis Cornwell, (b. March 3,1827, d. April 5, 1906, per Bible records) married
(lsl) Mary E. McCarver in 1846, and (2,ul) Mary J. Condra in 1872 and had a
total of sixteen children: (1) infant not named; (2) Login Franklin Cornwell; (3) Francis
Alexander Cornwell; (4) Willis Henderson Cornwell; (5) William Howard Cornwell,
husband of Louise Francis; (6) Mary Matilda Cornwell; (7) Isolinas Cornwell; (8) Ida
Adaline Agness Cornwell; (9) Ida Adaline Davis Cornwell; (10) Johney Spragings
      Cornwell; (11) Sam Bob Lee Cornwell; (12) Teressa Viletta Cornwell; (13) stillborn child;
      (14) Nutin McNab Cornwell; (15) Hermosa Grace Cornwell; and (16) Andrew Benton
      Cornwell (1879-1950).13

In addition, research on the family of Francis Cornwell (d. 1834) has revealed three
      other children:
      8. Elizabeth Cornwell (1781-1860) married David Cole (1780-1857), son of
Tunus Cole, on (bond dated) December 2,1805, Pittsylvania Co., VA, and had six children:
      (1) EU Cole (1806-1882), husband of Sarah Ann Richardson;14 (2) Henry Cole,
husband of Frances (...); (3) Leah Cole (never married); (4) Mahala Cole; (5) Rebecca
      Cole; and (6) William D. Cole (b. Nov 18, 1824, d. Jul 1, 1907) married on Aug 26,
      1860, Mary H. Bennett (b. Dec 18,1829, d. Nov 16,1901) and had six children.

      9. Milly Cornwell (1784-1877) married a supposed-cousin, Charles Cornwell,
son of "Collet Cornwell," and had seven children: (1) Mary F. Cornwell, wife of James
Sutton; (2) Artemisia Cornwell, wife of Elam Russell; (3) Cordelia "Delia" Cornwell,
wife of King Robinson; (4) Elizabeth "Betsy" Cornwell, wife of Madison Smith; (5)
Coleman Cornwell, husband of a Miss Fagg; (6) Francis Cornwell, husband of (1st) a
Miss Potter and (2nd) Elizabeth Hanes; and (7) Jesse Cornwell.

      10. Samuel C. Cornwell (dee'd pre-May 1837 in Smith Co., TN)
As early as February 15, 1802, Francis Cornwell (d. 1834) and family moved to
Pittsylvania County, VA, where they were listed in a deed (Pittsylvania Co., VA, Deed Book
12, p. 507). The last deed recorded there for him was dated November 18,1817, (Pittsylvania
Co., VA, Deed Book 21, p. 208). Following that, Francis migrated to Smith County, TN, where
several of his children already had settled. In 1997, he has many descendants living in
Pittsylvania County, VA, Smith County, TN, and elsewhere.

      Footnotes:
13 Andrew's grandson, Carl Goad of Homer, IL, supplied much of the information summarized in
this section on the Francis Cornwell (d. 1834) family. He corresponded in the 1970s and early 1980s
with Robert E. King, a co-author of this history.
14 Sarah Ann Richardson (1832-1910) was a cousin through the Collie family, being a daughter of
Lucy (Collie) Richardson (1802-1889), who was a granddaughter of James Collie (b. 1718), the immigrant,
      and Ann (Cornwell) Collie.
