Death: Aug. 27, 1265

Humphry de Bohun was the son of Humphry IV deBohun, an Anglo-Norman aristocrat, and Maud deLusignan, that was from a family of Crusaders. Humpphry married Eleanor deBraose some time after August 1241, at Brecknock, Breconshire, She was the youngest daughter and co-heiress of the powerful Marcher lord William de Braose, 10th Lord Abergavenny, and Eva Marshal, both of whom held considerable lordships and domains in the Welsh Marches and Ireland. Together Humphrey and Eleanor had three children: (1)Humphrey de Bohun, 3rd Earl of Hereford (c.1249- 31 December 1298), married Maud de Fiennes, daughter of Enguerrand II de Fiennes and Isabelle de Conde, by whom he had issue, including Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford; (2)Gilbert de Bohun, married Margaret whose surname is not known and by whom he had issue. His brother granted him Eleanor's lands in Ireland; and (3)Alianore de Bohun (died 20 February 1314, buried Walden Abbey). She married Robert de Ferrers, 6th Earl of Derby on 26 June 1269 and they had two children.
Humphrey V died 10 years prior to his father, so he was never made Earl. Humphrey V and his father, Humphrey IV were both involved in the Baron Wars. Humphrey (IV) de Bohun had been part of the baronial opposition of Simon de Montfort, but later gone over to the royal side. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Lewes in May 1264, but was restored to favour after the royalist victory at the Battle of Evesham the next year. Humphrey (V) de Bohun had remained loyal to the baronial side throughout the Barons' War, and was captured at Evesham on 4 August 1265. In October that year Humphrey (V) died in captivity at Beeston Castle in Cheshire from injuries he had sustained in the battle.
