      Col Benjamin Dulany VVeteran

Birth: 1752 Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
Death: 9 Nov 1818 (aged 65-66) Alexandria, Alexandria City, Virginia, USA
Burial: Shuters Hill Cemetery, Alexandria, Alexandria City, Virginia, USA
      Memorial #: 133700252

      Bio:
Revolutionary War patriot and county clerk. He served as the county court clerk from 1773 to 1776 in Frederick County, Maryland. On June 20, 1774, Dulany was listed on the Committee of Correspondence as published to the inhabitants of Frederick County, Maryland; this document is known today as the "Frederick Resolves" and served as a resolution adopted in support of the besieged citizens of Boston.
Before the Revolutionary War began, he was a personal friend of then-Colonel George Washington, who made him one of his aides. On 10 Feb 1773 he married Elizabeth French, d/o Daniel and Penelope (Manely) French of "Claremont" Fairfax County, Virginia, and ward of Colonel Washington, who gave her away at her marriage. Not long after this event, Benjamin presented to Colonel Washington the celebrated horse Blueskin which he rode during the Revolution. By 1777, the Dulanys moved to Alexandria as nearby neighbors of Washington and correspondence between them in purchasing land in 1782 is evident today. Colonel Dulany's favorite country seat was "Shuters Hill" near Alexandria, Virginia, where he and his wife were buried.
