The biography of Mrs. Eury Hedges identifies her mother Margaret as a child of John Osburn-1631. Sarah Osburn married in 1783 to Benjamin Wilks in Bedford Co., VA, when the family of John Osburn-1631 was the only Osburn family living in Bedford Co., VA. Franklin Co., VA land records show that John Osburn-1631's family was associated with the Wilks. Rachel Osburn was married in Franklin Co., VA to William Burdett with Benjamin Osburn as security on the marriage bond. Benjamin Osburn was closely associated with John Osburn-1631, also making the move from Franklin Co., VA to Bullitt Co., KY. A deed recorded in Franklin Co., VA Deed Book 4, page 223 is from John Osburn, Sr. to John Osburn, Jr., showing that John Osburn-1631 had a son John. When Samuel Osborn-7621 was married to Mary McGlothlen in Dec 1788, his father John provided a consent note for Samuel to marry Mary McGlothlen. This has two major implications: 1) As John Osborn-891(marr. Sarah Morris) had died in 1787, Samuel Osborn-7621 couldn't very well be son of John Osborn-891 and Sarah Morris. 2) Samuel Osborn-7621 was born in 1767 or later as he was underage at the time of his marriage and needed a consent note, meaning that he couldn't be the same person as Samuel Osborn-894(married to Nancy and then Frances Stringer) because Samuel Osborn-894 was much older. All of the children that some people show as children of Samuel Osborn-7621 and Mary McGlothlen are actually the children of Samuel Osborn-894. They are known to be children of Samuel Osborn-894 as Nelson Co., KY land records show they are his. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: Bio. of Franklin Osburn-1601 Bio. of Mrs. Eury Hedges "The Hedges of Stafford/Prince William Counties Virginia 1660-1980" Bedford Co., VA Marr. On 18 December 1889, in Hopkins County, James married Anna Laurentine Franklin, daughter of John Riley and Mary Ann (McGregor) Franklin. James and Anna had twelve children: Nola Belle, Floyd Cleveland, Flora Kathryne, James Clyde, Carol Mae, Hubert Weldon, Pauline Beatrice, Bonnie Dora, John Jackson, Infant son, Beulah Leone and Mary Ruth. James Harvey Wilkey died on 16 March 1943, in Hopkins County, Kentucky, at the age of 74, and was buried in Beulah Cemetery. ****************************************** News Clipping from the Dawson Springs Progress, Dawson Springs, Kentucky, 16 March 1943 James Harvey Wilkey, father of Mrs. Arch A. Purdy and James Clyde Wilkey of this city, was laid to rest last week in Beulah cemetery. Mr. Wilkey has spent his entire life in Beulah, where he was a large land owner, and had reared to womanhood and manhood one of the largest families in Hopkins County, the members of whom all survive, and were present at the services. Mr. Wilkey served as Master of Beulah Lodge and for a great many years as secretary. Mr. and Mrs. Wilkey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary about seven years ago and since that time the family has each year held a reunion, with relatives and and friends coming from several states. Besides the eleven children of his own, he reared Morton C. Hibbs, a grandchild, practically reared Austin and Iva Franklin, children of Richard Franklin, who also spent most of his years, and died, in the home of Mr. Wilkey. Squire John Riley Franklin and his wife, Mary Ann Bishop McGregor Franklin, his father-in-law and mother-in-law lived in his home as members of his family from the time of his marriage until their death. There were a number of years when this household consisted of sixteen and seventeen members. Besides the widow, children and grandchildren, he is survived by four great-grandchildren. The crowd and floral offerings were one of the largest to ever attend a funeral in this section. Many tributes were paid the deceased but none would have been appreciated more by him than that tribute paid to him by "Old Finis", colored, who worked several years for him. Upon learning of his friend's death at 11 O'clock, "Old Finis," who now lived resides in at Providence, Ky., seventeen miles away, walked the seventeen miles to be with his dear friend before he was laid to rest at 2 o'clock. A great tribute to any man.
