Rodia Martin ?? name spelling?

Birth: 5 Mar 1780 North Carolina, USA
Death: 25 Jan 1808 (aged 27) York County, South Carolina, USA
Burial: Little Bethel Methodist Martin CemeteryCleveland County, North Carolina, USA
Memorial #: 236213799
Bio:
According to her father's family Bible she was born 5 March 1780, so the age on her tombstone is probably overstated. She was a daughter of Gabriel Washburn and his second wife Priscilla Jones. Her mother Priscilla was NOT a McSwain, although Priscilla may have lived in the household of her brother-in-law David McSwain and his first wife Hannah Jones. Rodia married 21 March 1799 Thomas Martin. Her name was Rhoda, although the tombstone reads Rodia.

Thomas Martin and Rhoda Washburn had four children:
Priscilla Martin, married Alexander Moreland.
Sabra Martin, married Freeman Logan.
Gabriel Martin. married Lucinda -----.
Thomas Martin, married Sarah Rippy.

The remainder of Thomas Martin's children were by his second wife Elizabeth.

John Stith II

Birth: 1658 Charles City, Charles City County, Virginia, USA
Death: 1724 (aged 65-66) Charles City, Charles City County, Virginia, USA
Burial: Burial Details Unknown

Memorial #: 198791388

Bio: **** The following bio seems to be about Rev. John Randolph -- and NOT John Drury Stith ????

Rev. John Randolph and His Pastoral and Academic Legacy
Rev. John Randolph is a figure whose contributions to both religious and academic spheres in Virginia were significant. Though some records name him simply as "John," others provide more detail regarding his life and impact. According to **"Malones and Allied Families, Second and Revised Edition,"** John Randolph held pastoral duties in **Henrico County, Virginia**, a region that was central to many colonial families and institutions of early America.
Pastoral Duties and Historical Contributions
John Randolph's pastoral responsibilities were critical to the spiritual life of the Henrico community. His influence extended beyond his religious role, as he was also regarded as one of Virginia's historians. His work helped document and preserve the history of early Virginia, and his scholarly endeavors were complemented by his administrative duties.
Presidency at William and Mary College
One of the most prominent positions John Randolph held was that of **President of William and Mary College**. His tenure at William and Mary further cemented his role as a respected intellectual and leader in colonial Virginia. Under his leadership, the college continued its role as a primary institution for higher education in the colonies. Randolph passed away while still serving at William and Mary, marking the end of a distinguished career in both religious and educational fields.
Endnotes and Additional Sources
Genealogical sources such as **David Faris's "Plantagenet Ancestry of the 17th Century Colonists"** and **Wyatt's World Family Tree Volumes 4 & 5** provide more comprehensive details regarding John Randolph's lineage and contributions. These sources, along with the **Mann Database** and the **Ren Neville GEDCOM**, offer important genealogical insights into Randolph's ancestry, helping to trace his roots and clarify his legacy in Virginia's early history.
These genealogical sources, although sometimes varying in the specifics of dates and names, help build a picture of John Randolph as both a religious figure and a historian who left an indelible mark on the institutions he was part of. His death at William and Mary College was a notable loss for both the church and the academic community in early Virginia, underscoring the centrality of his work in shaping the colony's intellectual landscape.

Charles, I've not been able to establish any link between these two John Woodruffs, but have come across John I. D. Woodruff in deed records and such. He died 26 September 1937 in Liverpool (Brazoria County) and was buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston. A very well-researched in-depth article on him (written by J. W. Moore) appears in the 400-plus page The History of Liverpool, Texas, and Its People (1996, Liverpool History Book Committee). Copies are available from the Brazoria County Historical Museum's "Windows Book and Gift Shop" (e-mail: [email protected]). This book is a great resource for persons researching ancestors of the northern half of the county.

Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 12:13:55 EDT

My mother-in-law is a direct Hill descendant. Byrd was the son of Rev. Allen
Hill and Sarah Garrett. My best guess for the reason that Louisa died and is
buried in Holly Springs, Marshall Co., MS is the family was visiting Byrd's
brother John "Jack" Garrett Hill, Sr. and his family when Louisa became ill.
After the signing of a treaty with the Chickasaw Indians which moved the
Indians to Oklahoma and opened sections in North Mississippi to settlement
(about 1837), John G. Hill moved his family to Marshall County, Mississippi
near Holly Springs in the Wesley Chapel neighborhood. ~Carolyn Menges, San
Leandro, CA
